Seed to supermarket

A.N Boekel BV has its own cultivation division in order to control the entire chain from seed to supermarket. Over the years, our own cultivation has increased for the purpose of increasing requirements regarding traceability. By integrating a number of products into our own business process, we have more influence on quality, availability and price stability.

Celeriac

Celeriac is an important product within our company and we accompany this product from seed to supermarket. Together with our regular group of growers, we determine every detail of the cultivation process. Annually, approximately 41,000 tons of celeriac is washed at our professional laundry in Slootdorp. The celeriac arrives clean washed at our company and is dried and cooled by means of our eight drying cells. With this capacity, the required celeriac is gradually dried within 24 hours in order to optimise the quality. In our own production hall the celeriac is packed according to the customer’s wishes, this can vary from 1kg to 1150kg packaging. By having this process entirely in our own hands, we can be flexible in accepting orders, guarantee quality and offer competitive prices.

Specialties

In 2008 the cultivation company WGF, White Gold Farm, was founded. This is a unique collaboration in which cultivation, processing and trade come together. Grower Patrick van Benschop grows approximately 100 hectares of products, processing company JC Bruin washes and packs the products and A.N Boekel packs, trades and transports the products. In this way, the knowledge is optimally combined on all fronts. The WGF specialises in the cultivation of carrot parsley, parsnip, coloured carrots, coloured beetroot, black radish, Jerusalem artichokes, celeriac and cabbage. In this way, we have a great deal of influence on the entire process of the products in order to optimise quality.

Cooperations

In addition, A.N. Boekel BV has a close cooperation with a large number of growers, in which we also control the process from seed to supermarket. Together with the growers, we determine which varieties, quantities and specifications to grow in order to optimally meet demand and get the most out of the chain.
